Blog Post 4

While doing my Visitor & Resident (VR) map for my last blog post and after comparing my VR map with my group members’, I realized that my PLN wasn’t very broad. However, after going through the Week 5 material, I realized that even though I do not use many digital PLN platforms, the way that I use my PLN clearly demonstrates diversity and inclusivity, while still somewhat reflecting who I am as a person through my algorithms.

On social media and Youtube, for example, I follow and am subscribed to several accounts that largely reflect my personal interests. As a result, I am evidently predominantly suggested similar content. However, my personal interest in a broad range of topics, subjects, and phenomenon push me to actively seek out a wide variety of content, which in turn, causes my algorithm to increase my exposure to more diverse content through more diverse suggestions. From there, I am able to find something new and interesting to me on my Instagram explore page or Youtube home page, click on it and discover a new world that will add to my PLN experience.

Hence, overall, I would consider that my use of the few digital platforms that I use make up for the relatively low number of platforms that I use. Moreover, I always stay open to expanding my PLN to enhance my exposure to diversity and inclusion, thus my learning outcome from it as well. After all, new PLN media are started very frequently these days. I just use as much time as I need to research about their safety and legitimateness before choosing to jump on it or not.
